The mechanism of state influence on the Russian Orthodox Church and the World Council of Churches in the middle of the XX century
In recent years in journalism repeatedly raised the question about the use of ecumenism as a tool of Soviet foreign policy in the second half of the last century. However, historical research of the topic a little. In an article on the materials of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, and the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian State Archive of Contemporary History study the mechanisms of government influence on the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), whose aim was the promotion of Soviet foreign policy doctrine in the international arena , with the help of an authoritative ecumenical organizations, argued for dialogue and rapprochement of Churches , the World Council of Churches ( WCC) . The paper described the events connected with the entry of the Russian Orthodox Church in this organization , shows the ways and methods of interaction with the Russian Orthodox Church of the WCC in the first years of its presence in the part of the Russian Orthodox Church . The paper concludes that those compromises that went under the ROC government press, partly helped her not only to maintain their structure during the years of atheistic pressure on it , but even to establish training of clergy and enhance its prestige in the international arena.

By analyzing the semantics of Russian verb to sin, an approach to the consideration of the theoretical problem of delimitation of polysemy and homonymy in the language, based on the account of the interaction of the three cognitive models — the gestalt frame predicate-Argument structure. The lexical meaning of the word appears as a continuum, the distinction between polysemy and homonymy which appears as a conditional lexicographical problem.

Breaking new Ground? Reflections on translating Turgenevs новь
The article addresses a number of translation problems which are specifi c to Turgenev’s Новь (1877). In order to do this, it examines passages translated by Constance Garnett (1896) and Rochelle Townsend (1911), the latter being the most recent translation of the novel into English. The article focuses on chapter 19 (the “Fomushka and Fimushka” chapter), which exemplifi es Turgenev’s use of diminutives, of non-equivalent words, of noms parlants and of other name-based satirical devices. The parodic verse included both in this chapter and elsewhere in the novel is discussed, and one example is translated. The implications of Turgenev’s title are examined and alternatives offered to the usual “Virgin Soil” rendition.
